Manchester, UK, 29th September 2016 / Sciad NewswirePharmaceutical firm Mundipharma and Premier League club Manchester City have announced that they have entered into a three-year partnership to strengthen their relationship with fans and consumers across the globe, and harness the popularity of football to raise public awareness of key health issues such as the importance of staying healthy.

Raman Singh, president of Mundipharma for Asia Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, said during the announcement: “The pharmaceutical industry is an industry of paradox. We don’t aspire to have people who need medicines. But we must be at the forefront of research and innovation to provide cutting-edge medications to those who need them.

“It is important for Mundipharma to also help promote good health, so that people don’t get ill in the first place. It was natural to turn to a brand recognised the world over such as Manchester City as a partner in this venture, because we share the same values of innovation, progress and striving for excellence.

“City started 138 years ago, and today is setting out its vision for the next 100 years. That just shows that the club believes in progressing.”

Singh has been president of the global pharmaceutical firm’s emerging markets business since 2011. In the past five years, Mundipharma’s emerging markets have expanded from five to 120. The emerging markets business is now valued more than USD 500 million.

With the deal, announced at Manchester City’s elite youth development and training facility, City Football Academy (CFA), Mundipharma becomes the first and only official healthcare product partner of the club in Asia Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa emerging markets.

The company will work jointly with Manchester City to offer young fans worldwide an unforgettable experience at the state-of-the-art training facility, which will include coaching sessions delivered by City Football School’s coaches.

The logo of its Betadine range of iodine antiseptics – consisting of skin, upper respiratory and infectious disease care products – will feature on the sleeves of City’s medical staff at friendly matches played in the above-mentioned emerging markets.

At the event, Manchester City’s Chief Operating Officer, Omar Berrada, commented: “We are delighted to collaborate with such a well-known pharmaceutical brand that has a passion for creativity, and mirrors our own desire to be at the forefront of innovation with new projects and ideas. We believe that today is the beginning of a very exciting partnership.”
