Tue, 24/11/2015 - 11:30

London, United Kingdom, 24th November 2015 / Sciad NewswireA new digital platform to foster market success for innovation in Europe’s medical device sector launches today. Providing a hub of vital resources, MedTech Engine will offer key connections and information for people in medtech worldwide.

The brainchild of a team of entrepreneurs located in Strasbourg and London, MedTech Engine is the place to look for inspiration, discover the latest thinking, learn from industry experts, make connections and find resources throughout the journey from idea to market.

The global medical device industry was worth $361 billion in 2014, with the segment expected to grow to $427 billion by 2018.1 Very dynamic on the innovation front, the industry counts an estimated +5,000 medtech start-ups worldwide. The European medical device market represents one-third of this revenue, but the market presents unique challenges that can hamper commercial success.

“Contributing to ‘building the next generation of medtech’ is our vision,” says Wilfrid Girard, founder. “We want to bring together the early-stage innovators (from academics, start-ups, physicians) with key industry stakeholders (be that investors, consultants, distributors or global corporations) to deliver tomorrow’s health solutions. At Medtech Engine, we are focused on helping the medical device industry achieve success – using Smart Data, market expertise and an active community to change the way medical device innovation is developed and brought to market.”

The initial phase of the platform offers key resources, relevant data and opinion pieces in a user-friendly format. Members can make key connections through online databases of investors, medtech clusters/incubators, and health authorities – and learn about major industry events worldwide.

They can also find original features written by medtech experts and seasoned healthcare journalists, as well as resources and articles curated from the web.

Throughout 2016, new features and services will be added, including online training, competitive and market intelligence and a marketplace for the exchange of ideas and expertise.

Advisory board member, Professor John Marshall, MBE, adds: “I’m constantly faced with highly gifted inventors & innovators who have little or no understanding of how to take an idea from concept to market. Medtech Engine is going to change all that – helping them to transform academic research into patents and successful medical devices that play a vital part in improving healthcare.”
